Don’t it Make My Brown Eyes Blue Crystal Gayle

Composed by Richard Leigh, who at the time was down in the dumps as nothing much was happening for him. Producer and friend Alan Reynolds visited him to help cheer him up, the two sat on the floor playing songs, Leigh then mentioned a song his publisher was trying to get to Shirley Bassey and played ‘Don’t it Make My Brown Eyes Blue’. Reynolds said ‘Shirley Bassey my ass, I want that song’ took a tape and played it to Crystal Gayle.

The track was recorded at Jack’s Tracks in Nashville on October 27th 1976, would reach No 2 on the U.S.A. chart, became Crystal Gayle’s signature tune, biggest hit, and all time classic.
