My career in music began as a DJ in the West Midlands in 1970; by 1973 I had started to work as a Regional Promotion Manager at Nems and Immediate Records. Chrysalis Records, MCA Records, and Mountain Records would all add to my education before starting my own company, Impulse Promotions in 1983. The success of that company would lead me to be Managing Director of Jive Records in 1989. By 1999, Jive Records would be the largest independent record label in the world with artists Britney Spears, The Backstreet Boys, R,Kelly, Nsync, Steps and Justin Timberlake.
Since 1984 when Impulse started to become a successful company, until the closure of Jive Records within Sony/BMG in 2004, I have been fortunate to be awarded many Silver, Gold and Platinum sales awards, the highlight in sales explosion terms, being the Stock Aitken & Waterman years and the fifteen years at Jive Records. 2004 to 2007 I consulted for Sony/BMG Records and PWL Records and Studios, whilst also promoting the Exhibition ‘Kylie, Britney, Justin & Me,’ celebrating my career at the Walsall Museum. The Exhibition ran for nine months and became the most visited in the Town’s history.
I am very proud to have been born in Walsall in the West Midland and strongly support the Town and its Football Club.
Since my first visit to watch Walsall play I have registered forty-nine seasons, some with pain and some with glory. For two seasons I wrote a column for the match day programme which included a commentary on the season, my form and celebrity acquaintances from various golf tournaments and some record business talk and memories.
The past three years have been primarily spent writing my autobiography ‘The Future is in The History,’ now completed I am talking with several parties over future projects.
Currently, I am embarking on a tour of interviews in the press and on radio and TV, along with various personal appearances.
